Baklava Tarts

Ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup Madhava Natural Sweeteners Organic Very Raw Honey
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Madhava Natural Sweeteners Organic Coconut Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 package of phyllo dough sheets

For the filling:

  1. Heat Madhava Organic Very Raw Honey and butter just until the butter melts.
  2. Mix Madhava Organic Coconut Sugar with cinnamon and add to warmed honey mixture. Stir in vanilla and walnuts.

For the tarts:

  1. Layer 4 sheets of phyllo dough on a flat work surface, spraying the top of each sheet with butter-flavored cooking spray (or brushing with butter) before adding next sheet.
  2. Spray top sheet with cooking spray. Keep unused phyllo dough sheets covered to prevent them from drying out while working.
  3. Use a large knife or pizza cutter to cut stack of dough sheets into 3-inch squares.
  4. Pick up a square stack and rotate the top 2 squares, resulting in an 8-pointed star shape, then tuck stack into a cup in a mini-muffin pan to form a tart cup.
  5. Repeat process for number of tarts needed.

To assemble:

  1. Spoon a heaping half-tablespoon of filling into each tart cup.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until phyllo is browned.
  3. Cool in pan for 1-2 minutes before removing to a cooling rack.
